Catamaran Kiteboarding Kenya

The Ultimate 5 islands Kite Cruise Experience

Sailing surfari

Lamu-Kiunga archipelago is an integral unit, representing the entire Northern Monsoon Coastal Current eco-region in Kenya, fully complemented by Lamu Town which is a renowned Cultural World Heritage site.

About 60 km long, Kiunga archipelago is part of the string of islands that starts at Lamu Island, about 50 km to the south.

Starting from Lamu island, we cruise on our 20m by 9m catamaran while downwinders take on the warm, crystal clear waters to one of the most spectacular spots in the archipelago. One of the most beautiful downwinders ever in Kenya!

Sailing further, we enter the prestine Kiunga Marine National Reserve (KMNR), with stops on small islands with sandy beaches. KMNR is renowned for its aesthetic beauty, unique ecological conditions and species diversity.

It is also home to about 12,000 Bajun tribe who depend on fishing as a source of livelihood.

Due to the seasonal reversal in the flow of the two currents with the monsoon seasons(Kaskazi and Kusi), phenomenal upwellings of cooler, nutrient rich waters result in a highly productive marine ecosystem with rich populations of fish, crustaceans and molluscs, and teeming migratory species such as seabirds, turtles, whale sharks(the graceful giants) and the very rare, globally endangered dugongs.

Marine habitats include extensive seagrass beds and corals while the terrestrial environment is a mixture of coral rag and sand beaches, backed by coastal scrub and extensive mangrove forests.

The beaches provide nesting sites for different bird species and sea turtles.

Interestingly, it's a norm to spot wildlife such as buffalos, African wild dog and lions from the adjacent Dodori Game Reserve who frequent the dunes.

Throughout our cruise, we will be stopping at different interesting spots for snorkeling, kitesurfing, sunbathing and fishing to make the most and the best out of this adventure trip.

We say, 'Feel at Home! Feel free like a Bird!.
