The Wild side of the Lagoon

• The Birdlife: Thousands of Greater and Lesser Flamingos paint the lagoon pink, while Great White Pelicans often glide just feet above your kite lines.
• The Marine Giants: DURING THE KITEBOARDING CAMP, Humpback and Southern Right Whales migrate past the bay AND THE DOWNWINDER ROUTE.
• The Locals: A colony of over 60,000 Cape Fur Seals lives at Pelican Point. They are incredibly curious and will often "porpoise" alongside your board.
• The Desert Hunters: Keep an eye on the shoreline for Black-backed Jackals prowling the water’s edge in search of food—a sight found nowhere else in the world.

The Ride: Freestyle & Downwinders

The lagoon is a world-class playground, famous for hosting international speed record attempts.

• The Freestyle Flat: The main lagoon offers waist-deep, butter-flat water perfect for unhooking or perfecting your carves. One tack away lies the famous "Speed Strip", a 2.5km stretch of offshore wind and mirror-flat water.
• The Downwinders: We offer 2–3 signature runs, including the legendary Pelican Point Downwinder, where you ride from the lighthouse back to the lagoon, passing the seal colony and shipwrecks along the way. AS ALSO THE FAMOUS SKELETON WAVE BARREL.
